Ganthruem

Ganthruem (also kantrum) is to Thai-Khmers what mor lam is to Thai-Laotians, both of whom live side-by-side in the northeast region of Thailand known as Isan. It is hardly heard outside the provinces of Surin, Buriram and Sisaket which border Cambodia and must surely be Thailand’s best kept music secret. A major force in the ganthruem revival of the 1990s was the late Somchai Kongsukdee, popularly known as Darky.
